The Magic of Kettlebells

The Magic of Kettlebells I love working out with kettlebells.  Why? Kettlebells give a complete full body workout with just a few swings.  Don’t believe me try swinging one for a few minutes.  They are the great equalizers. The great body toners.  The great addition to add to any and every future workout routine.  I love Kettlebells and I love the body stretch and extension they give. One of the best side effects of using kettlebells for women is an uplifted breastline and a whittled look to the waistline.  The benefits to the legs and thighs are also incredible when doing repeated kettlebell squats. Not a fan of kettlebells? Use dumbbell weights for a similar overall body toning experience.   Several Kettlebell and dumbbell videos are below for you to view.   Kettlebell Prep   Favorite Move for Arm Fat Reduction   90 Reps in Succession… to music   The (more…)

How we created our dance playlist

How we created our dance playlist The Top Questions regarding our playlist: How is the playlist created. Where do we get the music? How is it regulated? Here is a rundown of the issues we face in creating a dance playlist in today’s video and music environment. Did you know that even when I dance at home to a popular song, I can NOT publish that video until I completely remove the song I was actually dancing to and replace it with a duty free song?  So even if a video is taken say at a party, the music at the party may be a copyright infringement.  The video can not be published without first removing the music.  It is complicated, but I found the easiest way around it, is NOT to publish my own music videos but to use the videos of others that have already been approved and are (more…)

Are People Really Exercising More?

Are People Really Exercising More? We pose this question: Are people really exercising more?   Although people are reporting increased physical activity, this may not be exactly accurate.  According to several studies, the number of people getting physical is on the increase.  The number of adults claiming to exercise is around 47%, a significant increase from 41% recorded in 2001. The latest statistics show that the current numbers between 48% to 50% in adult men who regularly exercise to gain muscle fitness. The numbers, however, are much lower among women. The data doesn’t match the related statistics among overweight and obese individuals.  If more people are exercising and engaging in weight training, then there should be some a decrease in the number of people suffering from the effects of lack of physical activity. Statistics show that more people are into fitness, however, diabetes and obesity are on the rise. Heart disease (more…)

Fitness Levels

Fitness Levels Fitness It is funny… even as I post this, I am chuckling to myself.  I had posted a little about this on Empowr and Facebook earlier today, but as I reflect back on my incredible weight loss, I realized that my fitness level fluctuated along the way. Apparently fitness comes in stages.  Well, at least for me, since beginning my exercise regimen at 500 pounds, my level activity has steadily increased little by little over time.  I originally began at 500 pounds or so, so actual exercise was almost an impossibility. I remember being SO severely morbidly obese that I was unable to stand for more than 90 seconds at a time.   I could only stand on a treadmill for 45 seconds at most and I was constantly out of breath with just the minimum amount of exertion. Best Dance Music

Best Dance Music I realized as I sat here creating new daily dance challenges for our paying members. (Oh YES, I challenge members to get up and dance every single day).  I realized how important the MUSIC is when it comes to cardio dancing.  So I sought out some of the best workout videos on YouTube…  These videos were just for the awesome beats… Of course everyone is at a different level of fitness, has different musical tastes etc., but the basic beats of GOOD DANCE MUSIC never change.  The most important factor to a good dance song is does it make you want to get up and shake your butt. In every dance song there is a basic underlying beat.  This beat is usually driven by the drums or the bass line.  Without the basic tenets of a decent dance beat, nothing else matters. Words and special effects do (more…)

10 Things You Should Know About Stretching

10 Things You Should Know About Stretching Before fitness training, one must give importance to doing warm-up or stretching exercises to prevent accidents or to enhance the output during the training. There are also a number of precautionary measures and tips to serve as guidelines when doing fitness exercises. Here are some of them. Stretching Exercise 1. To increase your flexibility and to avoid injuries, stretch before and after workout. Almost everyone knows that stretching before workout prevents injuries during the exercises, but only few people know that stretching after workout, when muscles are still warm, can increase flexibility. 2. Hold your stretching position for more than 60 seconds to increase flexibility. While holding your position for 20 seconds is enough for warm ups, holding each position for at least 60 seconds will develop the body’s flexibility. 3. Do not go into a stretching position then immediately return to the (more…)
